Some feedback from visitors to Leitrim on our Bed and Breakfast accommodation

“B&B at it's best”
Reviewed July 2017

Well, we stayed there a little while ago, but quality does not falter. My wife and I, and a cousin from Australia had a great time at Lock View. A genuine warm welcome was consolidated by being shown to lovely, comfortable, well appointed rooms. Breakfast was a treat and we really didn't have to leave the house to enjoy the hospitality of the area, because it was there in abundance throughout our stay. Carmel is a wonderful hostess who goes that extra mile. We have relatives nearby, and now we fee just as l welcome and ease at Lock View. Highly recommended.

“Warm, welcoming hostess for whom nothing was too much trouble”

I stayed a couple of nights on my way to Donegal and made sure to stay again on my return south. What a lovely peaceful location close to the canal for walks and well-placed for Carrick-on-Shannon. The bedroom was spacious with a large walk-in closet so you could de-clutter suitcases there; the bedding was quality and everything and everywhere was spotless and fresh. I was welcomed with a cup of tea and cake on arrival and enjoyed really first class cooked breakfasts each day as well as some lovely fresh dates. Nothing was too much trouble and Carmel kindly put me in touch with a local house agent, provided lots of other information and even lent me her hot water bottle! There are not many times you meet people at b&bs who you think are genuinely interested in their guests but Carmel is definitely one such person. Thanks Carmel and I hope it won't be long before I'm back at Lock View House.

“A Five star Bed & Breakfast”

My husband and I, along with a friend, spend two nights here in September 2016. The house is spacious and very pretty. The hosts couldn't have been nicer. We were met with tea and cake which hit the spot after a tiring drive. Our rooms were large and contained all the amenities to ensure our comfort. The beds were really comfortable with high end linens and pillows. We had a large walk in closet to store our clothes with even a bureau inside. The bath was large, spotlessly clean and there were plenty of soft towels. Breakfast was plentiful, varied and delicious. Carmel was a dream to deal with my questions online and was even nicer in person. The B&B is just a few feet from the Shannon- Erne Waterway. We booked a fun canoe trip on the waterway. A neighborhood pub is just down the road. We went there and had a great time talking to the locals. So even though it is in the country, you are still close to fun activities. I would not hesitate to stay here again and can highly recommend it. Thank you again, Carmel!

We couldn't feel more comfortable and spoiled than with Carmel. We would recommend it 110%. The facilities are great and flawless. Excellent quality bed and great breakfast too! Carmel is a lovely host who will help you out getting the most of that amazing destination and she's very respectful too so if you don't feel like socializing you can just pass by and she will always be with a smile on her face :). Ideal for spending a good break as we did! Emmanuel & Emilia.!

Stayed 4 nights whilst attending 70th birthday/Golden wedding celebrations of nearby friends. Every detail to make our stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible was covered by Carmen, ably assisted by John at Lockview House. Just imagine what characteristics you would prefer in a B & B and it was there at Lockview House in spades! When we left we felt we had made new friends, such was the welcome. If there were more than 5 stars they would deserve them all.

“FABULOUS!”

Easily the very best B&B we have stayed in and a great location. Carmel and her husband John were real sweethearts, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely house, lovely breakfast, lovely garden and beautifully kept really big garden. Well worth the money we paid!

“Fantastic!!”
Reviewed 14 September 2014

We came to this fantastic place by accident when we got lost! I am sure it was fate that took us there because we were overwhelmed with everything. We had a large family room with a double bed, single bed, ensuite, and a walk in closet. Carmel who runs this B&B is just lovely, rooms spotless and comfortable. Breakfast menu was a choice menu and the food was just excellent, right down to having eggs fresh from the next door neighbour's hens. Carmel could not do enough for us, well worth a visit, we stayed 6 nights it was so lovely.

“Lovely House, Attentive Host”

Reviewed 3 August 2014

We stayed here for 2 nights. The house is in the small village of Kilclare on the Shannon waterway. It's an easy drive to Carrick, and we had a pleasant evening stroll along the river into the next village of Leitrim. Carmel, our host, was incredibly helpful. The B&B is lovely, spotlessly clean and very comfortable indeed. Set back from the road, in beautiful grounds, it is located for peace and quiet. The Irish breakfast was fantastic, but my wife Liz is vegetarian. She was well catered for too, including fresh blackcurrants from Carmel's garden. You should definitely consider staying here if you want to visit Carrick on Shannon but prefer to stay somewhere more peaceful. Recommended. .

“Fabulous accommodation”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

We stayed here for 2 wonderful nights on our travels around Ireland. Carmel and John were very warm and welcoming. Our room was very comfortable with a walk-in wardrobe and a spacious bathroom. Tea and coffee and biscuits were provided and even slices of home-made cake. Our room had a view of the lock. On a day where we weren't particularly organised with our sight-seeing Carmel lent us some books of the area and we worked out our trip from there. One night we were going to the next village for dinner at the pub when Carmel rang them to check if they were serving meals that night without us even asking. When she found out they weren't she suggested another place to eat only ten minutes away and we had a most enjoyable meal there. The free wifi worked well in our room. The breakfasts were delicious. If we are ever back in Ireland we would definitely stay at Lock View again.

“A memorable stay”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We, four of us, recently visited Lock View House for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. We were made to feel very welcome by Carmel. The hospitality was impressive. Our en-suite rooms were very clean, comfortable and spacious with tea, coffee and biscuits provided. The breakfasts were delicious, with a selection of cereals and a full Irish Breakfast which set us up each day. This beautiful property is set in the countryside with Carrick-on-Shannon a short drive away. A pub, store and canal are also situated across the road.
Highly recommend Lock View House. We very much look forward to returning.

“A Superb Stay at Lovely Lock View House”

We are just back from a three night stay at Lock View House, Kilclare. This trip was booked as a surprise for my Dad's birthday, who was born nearby. From the moment we arrived at this beautiful property we were met with a lovely warm welcome from Carmel & John. The house was as impressive inside as out. The rooms were clean and spacious, with lovely views over the beautiful, well kept gardens & surrounding countryside. The breakfast was wonderful, with a fantastic choice of whatever you wanted, not to mention the rhubarb & ginger jam ;-) It is convenient for Carrick-on-Shannon & Leitrim Village and also has a friendly local pub and shop just across the road. Carmel made our stay very special and looked after us all very well. It made the visit even more memorable for Dad, as the family times we enjoyed during our stay were matched by the warmth & friendship we received from both Carmel & John. All in all we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend a stay at Lock View House if you are in the area.

My Wife & I and our 11 month old daughter stayed at Carmel and John's house to attend a wedding reception at Ballyfarnon . Carmel was extremely welcoming & friendly and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived with excellent hospitality. The room was spacious, immaculately clean and well presented with everything including WiFi.
All the catering was excellent from the very welcome tea and biscuits we received on arrival to the freshly cooked porridge with Syrup, 1st class full Irish Breakfast and omelette we received
The Guest House is in a lovely peaceful rural location and stand out with its well maintained front garden and fruit & vegetable gardens to the rear.
We would loved to have had time to stay longer to walk and sightsee along the nearby Ballinamore Canal or visit the beautiful town of Carrick-on-Shannon.........but we will be back for sure and have no hesitation in recommending Lock View House for anyone who is interested in a relaxing stay in the area.

The room, en-suite and indeed the entire house was spotlessly clean and tidy. Both Carmel and John couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. I wouldn't have an hesitation in recommending this B&B to anyone. Next time I'm down that way I'll be sure to check in again !!

Stayed here with my wife and 16 month old daughter for 4 nights in July and had the most relaxing of breaks. Location was excellent, about 10 mins outside Carrick. Carmel & John, the owners, are such a welcoming and friendly couple and couldn't do enough for us. The guest house is immaculate and our room was en-suit and Carmel gave us access to the bath for our daughter. Breakfast was great with a choice of cereals and an amazing home cooked Irish breakfast, and again Carmel even went and got us strawberries for our daughter. The gardens also deserve a mention and are beautifully maintained.
To sum up I can't recommend this highly enough and will defo be back in the near future.

“Above and beyond!”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

Our visit to this B&B was outstanding! Carmel and her husband were gracious hosts and incredibly accommodating. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were beautiful, spacious and impeccably clean. Carmel provided us with daily homemade teacakes to our rooms every afternoon. The first night we had a glass of wine when we got home really late in the water glasses we had in our rooms, but on the following nights she insisted on leaving out crystal wine glasses in the living room for us, in case we wanted wine again. Overall, they went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was everything we could have hoped for. We would absolutely stay here again!

If you are looking for wonderful accommodation in rural Leitrim, in a quiet area a short drive from nearby Carrick-on-Shannon, then look no further than Lock View House. This was my second time staying and it was just as good as the first. I wouldn't think of booking anywhere else. Carmel is a lovely, welcoming host. She will make sure you are comfortable but won't intrude on your privacy. And she will serve you the most delicious breakfast that will set you up for the whole day. The house is immaculate and the rooms are very spacious and clean. The beds are so comfortable a great night's sleep is guaranteed! Thanks once again, Carmel. Five star.

I found Lock View to be one of the best B&Bs I've stayed at, and I've stayed in quite a few. The room is spacious and clean, and feels up to date. The breakfast was delicious with quite a range of choices. And finally, the proprietress, Carmel, was wonderful. We got a little lost trying to find our way and she gave us great directions and followed up with a phone call when we took a little too long to get there to make sure we weren't still lost, and then let us accompany her to an evening of entertainment that we would never have known about otherwise that was fantastic. I would certainly recommend this B&B to other travelers.

We used Lock View B&B on a 2 day cycling event from Galway to Belfast. It was in an ideal location on our diagonal route through Ireland. Carrick-on-Shannon was a short Taxi ride away and proved yet again to be a good spot for a night out.

Carmel was a pleasure to deal with and was very accommodating. Our cycling equipment was safely housed and clothing laundered. The B&B was spotlessly clean and beds very comfortable. After sleeping like a baby we enjoyed a great breakfast (cooked to order) which set me up for another long day in the saddle.

We spent a lovely few days at Lock View 2 weeks ago. We had a very friendly welcome from Carmel and John (but I knew that!). The place is spotless the beds are comfortable and all our needs were covered. The breakfasts were delicious (I ate much too much but actually didnt put on any weight!). There are plenty of places to visit and my hosts were a mind of information and very helpful. We would certainly like to visit again and certainly recommend Lock View and its hosts to everyone.
